Advice to an aspiring marine?

the military is an honorable venture. Desire to go into the military because you want to, not to impress anyone else. Our enemies are usually not pummeled into submission, they are logistically out cled. That doesn't mean there is no place for a dedicated addition to the military, it just means know why you are considering it and do it for yourself and no one else.
