Question on Dogs?

I'm thinking about getting a dog (probably a lab or an american eskimo). The only problem is that I go back to school in mid-august, and there wont be anyone around. Will this be a problem? Our entire yard is fenced in, so it wont be able to get out if I leave it outdoors, and there are plently of places with shade in our yard. What are your views?
